Hi, my name is Jess Gilbert and I am a passionate Speech and Language Pathologist with over 16 years of experience helping individuals from birth to 21 years old improve their communication skills. Originally from West Virginia, I graduated from Bethany College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. After working with individuals with severe communication difficulties during a summer camp, I became determined to help increase functional and effective communication. I went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Communication Science Disorders from the University of Pittsburgh and successfully earned my Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) to become an American Speech and Language Hearing Association (ASHA) approved Speech and Language Pathologist.

As an SLP, I gained experience working in an outpatient facility with children ages birth to 21 with various communication disorders and diagnoses, including Articulation Disorders, Expressive and Receptive Language Disorders, Pragmatic Language Disorders, Selective Mutism, Apraxia, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down Syndrome, Prader-Willi Syndrome, and more. I gained experience with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) utilizing a whole-communication approach including both low-tech and high-tech speech-generating devices (SGD) to help increase each child’s functional communication skills to effectively communicate. I went on to be the lead SLP in a local school district’s Autistic Support/Life Skills classrooms and have provided therapy both in-person as well as fully remote in the educational setting for over 14 years.

Since 2021, I have served in a supervisory role for a private company, providing training, guidance, and support to various therapists (SLPs, CFs, OTs, and PTs) across various school districts in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.

I most recently began providing private speech and language therapy services through my company, Jessica Gilbert- Speech and Language Therapy, LLC and offer a functional approach to enhancing communication skills for individuals and families in need.

Outside of being a Pennsylvania certified Speech and Language Pathologist, I enjoy spending time with my husband, twin boys, and daughter near Pittsburgh, PA. I love traveling and focus on using nutritious food and exercise as medicine when life gets crazy. Additionally, I am a certified personal trainer, nutrition coach and fitness instructor, and love helping others achieve their personal goals.
